5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

A lamp is not lit to be hidden, but to help people see where they are going. When our actions are shaped by mercy, generosity, humility, and trust, they make God visible in ordinary ways.

Scripture is not meant only to be read; it is meant to be heard as a call. Each time we open the Scriptures, Christ stands at the shoreline of our daily routines, inviting us to loosen our grip on whatever keeps us from following more freely

I will try to meet this question, vast and boundless as it is vast and boundless the “Canadian land”, by turning to my Canadians brothers and sisters and especially to my brothers and sisters of the First Nations, asking: “Please, tell me about your life, about your thinking, and what I can do to let myself be reconciled with you”. Then, I will do my best to walk that way.

I also confidently dare to add: as Representative of the Holy Father in Canada, I know that Pope Francis “is with” the First Nations.

I attend events arranged by the indigenous community.  I have attended sweats, powwows, feasts and other celebrations.  I periodically go to Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe (the indigenous parish) and I love their hospitality, the music and the fact that during the sign of peace, everyone leaves their seat to offer greetings to everyone in attendance.

When I hurt someone I go and tell them I’m sorry. I also make use of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
